Attention (July 1st, 2025 - present): Update on Potential Canada Post Strike.

The Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) has initiated strike action, including a nationwide overtime ban. On June 16th, CUPW members were asked to vote on Canada Post’s comprehensive offer to CUPW.

As this situation continues to evolve, the Evict Radon National Study continues to take precautionary steps to minimize disruptions caused by any interruptions in postal service. Radon test kits will continue to be shipped out until a potential strike has officially commenced. Return shipping may be affected, and we are recommending that participants continue to test until the situation is resolved. Read more about return shipping here.

Radon Testing Period

How Long to Wait after Starting Your Radon Test.

Test for between 3 and 12 months.

Health Canada recommends that we all should test for radon for a minimum of 3 months. The amount of radon entering a building can fluctuate up and down quite a lot over a short period of time. This is normal and by having a long (90+ days or more) radon test, these fluctuates are averaged out, returning the real radon level of a house.

Here are the three options used by most people:

  • A minimum period of 91-day test. A good time to start a test is from September to March.
  • If you are starting from April to August, perform a 6-month test.
  • Deploy your test for the entire year

The device is only active once you have opened the vacuum-sealed plastic bag it will arrive in. As soon as you open this vacuum-sealed bag, the test starts. The most important thing is to accurately record the start and end date of the test, via the registration process.
