Our Strategic Leadership Team

The financial and strategic leadership of the Evict Radon National Study are administratively headquartered at the University of Calgary in Alberta, Canada, but involve board members from across Canada. All of our volunteer board member efforts are designed to encourage as many Canadians as possible to test their home for radon while also enabling new public research into the origins of radon exposure and new solutions to radon-induced lung cancer. Everything we do strictly adheres to national research ethics standards, as well as best practices for academic research that meets international standards, will pass academic peer-review, and ultimately, very close scrutiny from the public, government, and other key stakeholders. Achieving a radon risk-free future for Canada is very possible and, if successful, prevent literally thousands of new, mostly high lethality lung cancers each year.

Our Strategic Leadership Team

Dr. Goodarzi is the Scientific Director of both the Evict Radon National Study. He is also an associate professor at the University of Calgary (UC), where he is also the Director of the Robson DNA Science Centre, lead of Science Communication for the Charbonneau Cancer Institute. He obtained his PhD from the UC in 2005, and postdoctorate in 2010 from the University of Sussex in the UK. In 2011, he opened his laboratory at the UC’s Cumming School of Medicine and, since then, has been named one of Calgary’s Top 40 Under 40 for achievements in science and education, and a “Peak Scholar” by UC’s President Elizabeth Cannon for innovation and knowledge translation in the community.

Dr. Pearson is one of the senior scientists and in the Goodarzi laboratory and is the research operations manager for the Evict Radon National Study project. His work focuses on the biology of alpha particle exposure, as well as the study of the real-time indoor air dynamics of radon within the residential built environment. Dustin’s work is currently supported by the Canadian Cancer Society. In this project, Dr. Pearson serves as the primary manager for all radon databases, masterminding the security, annotation and analysis of our complex datasets relating to radon exposures, participant demographics, building metrics and more.
